Kelsey is a Gulf Coast media personality. She talks about her love for the legendary musician, businesswoman, and mother that is Beyonce. This also spurs a conversation about representation in our culture. [00:02:57] You were an anchor, reporter, producer of the 60th anniversary of the Desegregation of UGA documentary. And that is when you realized that you had to be a journalist. After graduating, you got a job in advertising and quit and moved to Pensacola. [00:04:58] The documentary was all about the process of Charlene Hunter Gault and Hamilton Homes, who were the first two black students to ever go to UGA. I just knew that whenever I saw it on screen, that I had to be a storyteller. [00:06:29] "I love it. I'm loving being by the beach, and of course, I grew up on the coast in Kingsland. Nothing beats the Gulf Coast. The water is just immaculate. The people here in Northwest Florida have been really kind to me " [00:07:50] What is one of your favorite things about the Gulf Coast so far? The seafood is fantastic. How much love and support there are for our veterans. The fact that this is the home of the Blue Angels, that was an experience for me. [00:08:40] We're here to talk about Queen Bee herself, period. Music has always been a big part of Reagan's life. What is it about Beyonce for you? What is the draw? [00:13:14] One of my earliest memories of Beyonce was being at my grandfather's house in St. Marlow. How many people have memories connected to Beyonce? Fungs. There are a few other episodes of this show that we think you'll love. [00:17:57] I truly believe that Beyonce just has a gift from God. She is able to transcend space, time, race, culture, music, genre. It's the work ethic that makes Beyonce other human. There is a very select few of people that can do both immense talent and immense professionalism. [00:23:39] When you were 13 and you saw her for the first time in concert. It was an out of body experience. Representation matters so much and it's easy. It's to have someone say you saw a black woman again, top ten most powerful person on the planet, period. [00:29:51] Beyonce has pretty much always been private. There is a negative side to the fandom. What does the future look like for Beyonce? I want her to go on another tour.

How Florida Gators Football Inspired Studentloanplanner.com ‘s Travis Hornsby - Pensacola FL
Join Christian Jones and Regan Bell with their guest, Travis Hornsby, as they chat about his favorite football team: the Florida Gators. Travis is the founder and owner of Student Loan Planner, a student loan advice company. Today, he shares how the team gave him a sense of community and helped him in terms of decision-making. There’s a lot to take away from this episode, so make sure to tune in and enjoy the show!   A Sense of Community Sports have always been part of college culture because it unites students. In addition, the university spirit and solidarity bind everyone together despite differences. So Travis felt a sense of community when he started watching the Florida Gators football games. Everyone cheers in unison for their team, and there is belongingness. Having experienced these football games became a defining moment for Travis. One of the reasons he chose to take the path to corporate America was because he was taking a Real Analysis class. Yet, Travis realized he had no time for watching football – a thing he liked – and he was stuck doing math proofs since he had to. That made Travis pivot away from it and end up becoming a student loan consultant. The community he found within the Florida Gators, even only as a mere spectator, randomly touched his life in many ways.   Sports and College Applications When a college team wins the championship, it brings pride to the university, even bragging rights. Besides, college is also a formative moment of youth that defines what would be in the adulthood stage. Travis says that from his experience on campus, it was happiness and excitement for him to see all the successful people around him. He was there at the time that Tim Tebow was the star player for the Florida Gators. Travis articulates that when a college football team is doing well, there is a surge of university applications. In contrast, it is the opposite when a college football team is in the dumps; university applications are low. It is one of the reasons why Travis thinks college football, in general, is interesting. There is the fun social benefit of higher education given the atmosphere and entertainment to the students.   About Travis Hornsby: Travis Hornsby is a speaker and the founder of Student Loan Planner, which he launched after helping his physician wife navigate ridiculously complex student loan repayment decisions. To date, Student Loan Planner has consulted on over $1 billion in student debt. Travis is a chartered financial analyst and brings his background as a former bond trader trading billions of dollars. Trying to solve the student loan crisis brought him out of his first retirement at 25. Travis brings that same intensity to analyzing the best repayment paths for graduate degree professionals with six figures of student debt. To date, he’s consulted on over $595 million in student debt personally, more than anyone else in the country.   Outline of the Episode: [02:44] How Travis retired from the corporate industry at 25[07:29] Deceptive advertising of college and student loans[08:46] What drove Travis to become a fan of the Florida Gators football team[16:15] Impacts of the pandemic to sports[20:23] The atmosphere on campus during the Tebow mania[23:48] How Travis keeps up with the game scores while abroad[26:56] When people have a disconnect for college football[39:34] Dangers within the college football fandom[44:08] What future Travis sees for the Florida Gators[45:26] A brief outline of what Student Loan Planner is about Get Raw, Unedited Episodes, from FANtastic People, Access To Our Discord Channel and Submit Questions for Upcoming Guests: https://fantasticpeoplepod.supercast.tech/ Resources: Website: https://www.studentloanplanner.com/   Connect with The FANtastic People Podcast! How The American Classic Film Ghost Busters Inspired the Career of Comedian and Writer Wally Phelps - Mississippi

How The American Classic Film Ghost Busters Inspired the Career of Comedian and Writer Wally Phelps - Mississippi
Join Christian Jones and Regan Bell with their guest, Wally Phelps, as they chat about Ghostbusters, his influence when it comes to comedy. Wally is a stand-up comedian from Mississippi. Today, he dives into how the 1984 Ghostbusters film made an impact on his humor on stage. There’s a lot to take away from this episode, so make sure to tune in and enjoy the show!   Who You Gonna Call? Ghostbusters first came out in cinemas in 1984. As a child, Wally was at first terrified of the film due to the fact that A Nightmare on Elm Street was also released around that time. The Ghostbusters film did not appeal to Wally at first as he did not find it funny. Additionally, the cartoon series was not even comedic at all but deadly serious. It was a horror show, after all, similar to Are You Afraid of the Dark. Wally only realized the humor in Ghostbusters as a teenager. He hated it at first because his brother liked it, but it eventually grew on him when he watched the VHS his brother bought. Now, Wally credits Ghostbusters as his influence on comedy. Its humor is all situational and contextual. The comedy is natural and makes sense; that is why it works.   Old Versus New An all-female cast reboot of the Ghostbusters film was released in 2016, and it received backlash. Wally says there are two groups of people from that film. The first group is those who do not want anything new, and the second group is those who expected Ghostbusters to be all the same. As a result, they regarded the 2016 movie as garbage because it was nothing like the original. But looking at the brighter side, Wally says it still brought people into it, that it introduced Ghostbusters to them, just not in a good way. The new version did not necessarily remove the old version. The original still exists, and it is good because those people who knew of the reboot can still go back to the roots.   About Wally Phelps: Wally Phelps is an award-winning comedy writer of the 2016 short film Monsters Anonymous. It tells about the classic monsters in a group therapy session coming to terms with the fact that they aren’t scary anymore. Wally is also a stand-up comedian.   Outline of the Episode: [02:28] How peer pressure got Wally into comedy[06:33] The 1984 Ghostbusters film as Wally’s influence on comedy[11:18] What is the importance of blending comedy and horror in film[17:56] Wally’s Ghostbusters costume for his third grade Halloween[21:00] How to sell Ghostbusters to someone who has not watched it[26:21] Misunderstood things about the film and fandom[33:11] Issues and critiques about Ghostbusters[41:27] What the future holds for the Ghostbusters franchise[44:08] Wally talks about Monsters Anonymous Get Raw, Unedited Episodes, from FANtastic People, Access To Our Discord Channel and Submit Questions for Upcoming Guests: https://fantasticpeoplepod.supercast.tech/ Resources: Monsters Anonymous: https://www.facebook.com/helpthemonsters/videos/549864188540269/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wallyisfunny/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/therealbigWALL YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/biggestWALL/   Connect with The FANtastic People Podcast! How Watching 50s & 60s SciFi Flims Became a Comfort for Library Assistant Jared Miller: Casa Grande AZ
Join Christian Jones and Regan Bell with their guest, Jared Miller, as they chat about the world of science fiction, particularly in film. Jared is a library assistant at a public library. In his free time, he watches science fiction movies of the 50s and 60s as a pastime. Today, he talks about his fascination with science fiction films in the 50s and 60s and events of that period which greatly influenced them. There’s a lot to take away from this episode, so make sure to tune in and enjoy the show!   A Product of Its Time Cheap effects, weird-looking, and plainly old – that is what most people would describe science fiction movies from the 50s and 60s. But for Jared, these come with the complete package. The social, cultural, and political motives that influenced these films made Jared fascinated with them. After World War 2, American science fiction films boomed their way into popularity which paved the way to the ones at present. The 1950s was the golden age of science fiction. Jared was also amazed at the art form applied to the movies. Practical effects were the only technology available at that time, yet the intention behind and the arduous production process fueled his obsession. The movies also reflect society and show a visual representation of what people thought of the future. An artist’s imagination of how the world would look and the technology they believe would be possible is what Jared loves about these movies. While there are issues represented in these films that are now unacceptable, Jared reminds us that these are products of the time. It only shows how the times have changed, including what people believe in.   About Jared Miller: Jared Miller lived in Pensacola for 13 years, where he attended middle school and high school. Currently, he is a library assistant at a local downtown library in Casa Grande, Arizona. When Jared is not arranging the shelves at the library, he is time traveling 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and warring with the worlds on The Day the Earth Stood Still in the 1950s and 60s science fiction films. Taylor Palmer works as a self-employed realtor with licensing in Texas and Maryland. She first discovered Doctor Who about ten years ago when memes of it were all over Pinterest. Later on, Taylor binge-watched the show in its entirety after leaving it on TV a few times while doing chores. As a result, she found comfort in the Doctor Who’s story and what its characters gave her, especially during her husband’s deployment. Today, she shares her thoughts on why Doctor Who stayed around for so long and what she looks forward to with the new doctor being female. There’s a lot to unpack, so stay tuned and enjoy the episode!   Why Doctor Who Lives Forever Doctor Who has been around for so long that it has cemented itself into pop culture. But for Whovians (fans), it is more than just a pop culture icon. On March 26, 2005, the show first aired on a low budget, made evident by its initial production quality. While people are often put off by how cheap it used to look, it did not stop others from seeing the potential of a great story. Funny enough, as popular as it is, people who are not fans of the show often have no clue why it’s appealing to others. While it did have a simple premise, it took a life of its own as a great story that would last many lifetimes with the right people. About Taylor Palmer: Taylor Palmer is a self-employed real estate agent with licensing in Texas and Maryland. Taylor specializes in military relocation and first-time homebuyers in the Annapolis, MD region.  She is also highly skilled in customer service and proficient in developing teams, leaders, and mentors by honing their social and problem-solving skills.
