Sarah B : Existing in Shades of Grey

The Thick of It with Jo Gale

Hey, I’m so glad to have you back listening for episode 4!

So a big part of this show, is that I wanted to give my guests a chance to introduce themselves. It seems like a simple thing, but I really believe giving people space to step into their own identity is so empowering.

In fact, struggles with identity is something that connected myself and my guest Sarah B in such a profound way.

Sarah B (she/her) is a Black  Biracial Queer community builder, maker and independent parent amongst other things. Sarah most recently has been making waves in the Hamilton Queer Community with her sold out Fruit Salad events, among all the other work she does.

Today’s conversation was recorded on Federal Election Day here in Canada, so we begin our conversation candidly around national and local politics. Sarah and I also dive into our complicated relationships with race identity, being “white presenting” and talk about challenges of being mixed race. Sarah also discusses the complications of queer identity, her struggles with finding appropriate support for her mental health and why alternative spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+women & gender nonconforming folks are so important!
Sarah is so cool, I can’t wait for you to hear our conversation.

PSSSSST: My soft open schedule for The Move Room is open, classes running until December 16th, and then I’ll be closed over the Holiday Break, getting the studio ready for the grand opening in January. I have a fun give-away planned in December with a few other *new* Hamilton small businesses, so keep connected!

Sarah’s next Fruit Salad Event on December 18th is SOLD OUT, but you can join the waitlist, and connect through Fruit Salad Hamilton on Instagram @fruitsaladhamiltonedition
